A Small Film. A Complicated Conversation.

Two people in a car, looking surprised. The woman in the foreground, the man behind her. Black text "TRAVEL PLANS" at the top.

Film Inquiry recently spoke with Zoey Sidwell about her short film Travel Plans and the mildly terrifying experience of directing for the first time. The conversation covers the shift from acting into filmmaking, the appeal of contained storytelling, and why some stories work better when they quietly unravel instead of announcing themselves immediately.

“Travel Plans, a micro-short that had its premiere at this year’s LA Shorts, may be little but it packs a lot...”

Sidwell describes the film as an intentional first step into directing. Small cast. Single location. No room to hide behind spectacle. Just tension, timing, and two people having the sort of conversation that gets worse the longer it continues.

The interview also touches on her collaboration with writer Krista Amigone and their shared interest in stories that reward a second viewing. The kind where the audience realizes, a little too late, that the film was telling them exactly what it was doing the entire time...
